Has God ever asked you to do something makes absolutely no sense?
Meet Naaman. (ENG transliteration: NAY-muhn)
Naaman was the commander of the army of Aram. The Bible describes him as a “valiant warrior.”
But, for all his skills and successes, he was burdened (and not doubt embarrassed) with a skin disease. (You can read his story in 2 Kings 5:1-14.)
After being told the God of the the prophet, Elisha, could help him, he travelled to where Elisha lived and presented his plight.
What happens next is curious.
Instead of Elisha saying something like, “May God heal you,” or “So you will know there is only one God you are now healed,” he instructed Naaman to go wash seven times in the Jordan river.
What??
Naaman thought this was one of the stupidest things he’d ever heard.
Fortunately for Naaman, his servants said, “Do it anyway.”
The result? Naaman was completely healed.
Has God ever asked you to do something that appears to be “stupid” or illogical where you look to heaven and think, “Have you lost your ever-loving mind?” Me too.
Do it anyway.
I love this quote:
“I asked for strength, and God gave me difficulties to make me strong. I asked for wisdom, and God gave me problems to solve. I asked for courage, and God gave me dangers to overcome. I asked for love, and God gave me troubled people to help… My prayers were answered.”
Remember, when we cry out to God with our own plight, God may very well give us an answer that makes no sense – but is his way to exercise our faith, resulting in healing, strength, peace, and hope.
Do it anyway.
