I’m not asking you to accept the Christian faith. I’m merely asking to consider the scientific data.
Is it possible everything in the cosmos just popped into existence by chance? Anything’s possible. (It’s possible a steak dinner will pop into existence in front of me shortly.) But, scientists don’t focus their attention on the endless possibilities. Rather, they focus on what scientific discovery supports as most probable i.e. “What makes best sense of the data?”
In his book, “The Science of God,” physicist, Gerald Schroeder (not a Christian) shares,
During a private meeting held at Princeton between the late prime minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion and Albert Einstein, their conversation might have turned toward the politics of the young State of Israel. Instead, immediately they focused on what really intrigued them, whether there was evidence for a higher force directing the universe. Both agreed there was such a force, a central power.
The biblical view of creation is not in conflict with science. To believe so is a philosophical and theological view, not a view based on science, which can neither prove nor disprove a Creator. Rather, simply put, science is in conflict with any worldview that starts without a Creator.
Is it possible there is no Gospel? Anything’s possible. But an honest investigation of the available scientific data sounds a whole lot like the biblical book of Genesis.
Is the Bible true? My always-questioning default is skepticism.
But this I can tell you: I don’t have enough faith to doubt the Bible’s veracity. nw
