While writing his second letter to the believers at Corinth, Paul offered something wonderful, yet unsettling,…
“You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are Christ’s letter, delivered by us, not written with ink but with the Spirit of the living God not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3
Why wonderful? We are living, breathing embodiments of the Word of God.
Why unsettling? We are living, breathing embodiments of the Word of God.
The Bible is now available in so many translations. But, according to Paul, God also uses the “(insert your name here) Translation.”
It’s why D.L. Moody said,
“Out of 100 people, one will read the Bible, while 99 will read the Christian.”
More recently, in his book The Fifth Gospel, Bobby Conway wrote,
“There are five Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and the Christian. Most people never read the first four.”
“You are Christ’s letter…”
This is what Jesus meant when he said,
“You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
We are “light bearers” – living, breathing “translations” of the Word of God.
Has your life sometimes been a pretty bad “translation” of the Bible? That’s ok – mine too. (In fact, it’s embarrassing to think of how messy my “Nick Translation” has represented at times.) But we can ask God to help us better demonstrate the love, life, truth, hope, and peace of Jesus.
