“I’m sorry. I’ve called the wrong number.”
We’ve all either said that, or had it said to us.
In Acts 7, Stephen is preaching to the religious leaders of the time by reminding them of how God has worked throughout history. When he gets to the life of Moses he says,
“Then the Lord said to [Moses], ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’” (emphasis mine)
If you look back at the original story in Exodus, chapters 3 & 4, you’ll find Moses telling God five different times, “You’ve got the wrong number.”
But God never calls the wrong number.
No doubt, Moses had spent the past 40 years asking God to free the Jewish people from Egyptian slavery.
But, never in a million years had he thought that he would be part of the equation of God’s answer to his prayer.
As you pray, as you live, keep the mindset of Isaiah who said to God,
“Here am I, send me.”
Because God may well be dialing your number right this minute.
