“…and the LORD has laid on [Christ] the sins of us all.”

“…and the LORD has laid on [Christ] the sins of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)

This is prodigious and shocking truth…

One theologian comments on this passage:

The manner in which God laid our sins on Jesus Christ was that God treated him as if he had committed every sin ever committed by every person who would ever believe – though he was perfectly innocent of any sin. (The NET renders the above verse: “but the Lord caused the sin of all of us to attack [Jesus].”

“God did so to him so that (the wrath being spent and the justice satisfied) God could then give to the account of sinners who believe the righteousness of Christ, treating [us] as if we had done only the righteous acts of Christ.”

Paul put it this way to the Corinthians:

“He made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”  (2 Cor. 5:21)
