When we look in the mirror, most of us don’t identify with Mac Davis’ classic, “Lord, it’s hard to be humble, when you’re perfect way.” 🙂
On the contrary, we see the “real” us. Full of flaws, defects, etc.
Here’s what the Bible says: you are God’s masterpiece!
Check out this out…
I n the first three chapters of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he is unloading a ton of “what God has done for – and in – us.” It’s humbling to meditate upon.
Then, in 2:10, he writes,
“For we are God’s masterpiece (handiwork/workmanship). He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,…”
The Greek word Paul used for “masterpiece” is “poiÄ“ma”, from which we get our English word “poem.”
Poetry is art!
Consider Genesis 1:1 in light of Ephesians 2:10:
“In the beginning, God created…” (emphasis mine)
“He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,…” (emphasis mine)
Our God is an artist.
He called his creation of the cosmos “good.”
But, he calls us his “masterpiece.”
His ultimate work of art – beautiful, stunning, priceless.
And what a breathtaking artistic masterpiece you are.
